## 25 Yr Old w/Urea Cycle Abnormality
A 25-year-old male from Southern California presented with malaise, fatigue, and depression
Medical history identified a high protein diet, favoring Hawaiian Poke, the protein-rich ahi tuna dish. He exercised regularly, occasionally becoming dehydrated. He consumed little in the way of vegetables, fruits or carbohydrates. Physical exam was unremarkable.
MetaSync analysis conducted on December 8, 2024 revealed a marked elevation of Glutamine and Citrulline with extremely low ornithine.
The results identified an abnormality in the Urea Cycle. This critically important pathway is responsible for metabolizing amino acids in all proteins. By converting ammonia into urea, this is one of the most important pathways for metabolic detoxification.
We immediately recommended a reduction in protein intake, liberalization of carbohydrates and fat, a modification of exercise and avoidance of dehydration.
One month later, on January 24th, 2025, a repeat MetaSync analysis revealed complete resolution of the urea cycle abnormalities.
The most gratifying part of the case report is the fact that his clinical improvement and biochemical corrections were all accomplished with diet and lifestyle changes. No drugs were required.

## Finding an Amino Acid Deficiency
With this metabolic screening, they found I had a really bad L-Carnitine deficiency. This is typically a genetic condition.
Note: L-Carnitine is an amino acid that your body produces that helps in energy production, converting fat into energy.
I was advised to take an L-Carnitine supplement daily.
I've had chronic leukemia and in the past when I needed chemo, my hemoglobin fell and I always needed blood transfusions. But after taking L-Carnitine daily, I noticed that my hemoglobin level remained strong so I wouldn't need blood transfusions!
